First and foremost, I want to thank the Daughters for their love and devotion to our Order. Bill has said this on a number of occasions, and it bears repeating: Without the Daughters, we’re just a bunch of adults sitting around with nothing to do. I have looked to them for inspiration throughout the year and every decision I made was done with their best interests in my heart and mind.

One of the hardest things to deal with as Grand Guardian is adults who have forgotten that this organization is about the Daughters. Sometimes those interactions left me grumpy and down. But one smile, one hug, one joke, one moment of laughter with a Daughter erased all of those negative feelings. I truly cannot express to them how much their love and support has meant to me all year.

I would not be standing here had it not be for the Daughters of Bethel 22. Bethel 22 has always been my family, when I had none. It pained me to see them struggle and know that there wasn’t much that I could really do to help them. Even though they could not travel with me as much as any of us would have liked, they were always with me in my heart. While I will miss traveling every weekend, I will be glad to getting to spend time with my girls.

Bethel 3 will always have a special place in my heart. The Daughters and adults have always welcomed me with open arms, included me in everything that they could and made me feel part of their Bethel. I will always be thankful for their friendship, hugs and loveable blond moments.

I have been privileged to travel with 5 amazing Daughters this year: Kesley Friend, Sammy Glaros, Sarah Montgomery, KC Conrad and Jessy Bradshaw. I have laughed til’ I cried with these girls and have had a great deal of fun . . .from picking on Bill on this 40th birthday, his hair gel . . or just in general . . .to road trips and funny inside jokes . . .I have had a blast and thank them for their love and devotion to the Order. I am so glad that I got to share this amazing year with them.

As I said on Thursday night, it has been an honor and a privilege to be your Grand Guardian. What an amazing time!!

Unfortunately, rain on the day of the HIKE event seems to be a tradition for us! Once again, it rained!! Buuuuuuuuuut, toward the end of the parade the sun came out and it was beautiful!! The Daughters had so much energy and enthusiasm for our organization as they marched in the drizzle, the downpour and the sun! :) If people don't know who the Job's Daughters are by now . . .they weren't paying attention to our cheer!!

Lunch was held at the Granby St. Lodge for everyone that attended the parade. We were treated to a great lunch and a murder mystery run by Bethel 42! Our own Dad Bill was a suspect in the case! I'm happy to report, he didn't do it! :) Oh! and this lunch had by far the LARGEST Ziki Ziki Zar game I've ever seen!!! (okay, no one really knows how to spell the name of that cup game . . .if you know, enlighten us!!)

With full bellies . . .we were all ready to crash! Many of us were fortunate enough to catch a quick nap before heading back over to Granby St. for the dance and awards ceremony! Dad Bill and I handed out awards . . . .for Jobie spirit!, the Ziki Ziki Zar contest, the Daughters that raised the most money and the Bethels that raised the most money. I'm not going to let the cat out of the bag just yet . . .there were a few Bethel Guardians that couldn't make it to the dance and I know their Bethels would rather tell them what they won!! :)

Are you ready for the total amount raised?!

Drum roll, please . . . . . . .

Almost $10,000!!!!!!!!!

YAY!!! VIRGINIA JOBIES YOU. ARE. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dad Bill and I are so proud of you!!!! :)

Sunday morning Mom Ann led us all in a worship service that focused on letting our light shine in Job's Daughters. But, it's not just about letting our God-given talents shine; it's also about letting the light of Job's Daughters shine in us so that others can see what a fantastic organization we all belong to!

Thank you to Mom Vickie and the HIKE Committee for making this weekend so much fun for everyone! It was a challenge trying something new and y'all hit it out of the ballpark!! :)

Most importantly, thank you to those who contributed and participated in this year's HIKE. By donating your time and money, you helped make someone's life a little easier and a little brighter.

Didn't get a chance to give money to HIKE yet? There's an opportunity this weekend in Richmond! Join us for a HIKE dance! Want more information? Just ask!!

See y'all soon!
Mom Melanie

Down to the wire on CAV Training!!!

Hey everyone!!!

You have another chance to become a Certified Adult Volunteer for Job's Daughters of Virginia!!

March 28th of 2010 at Arlington Masonic Temple (Also known as the place Bethel 1 Meets).

The address is 1 South George Mason Drive Arlington, Virginia.

Registration starts at 7:30 AM!!! Long time no post!! I hope that you are keeping warm this winter and if you were "fortunate" enough to get a bunch of snow this season, I hope that you survived it all and have successfully shoveled out.

A week after our pageant, Dad Bill and I paid a visit to Maryland for their Pageant and Supreme Visitation. We were joined by KC and Jessy, our new Misses, and their families. Also making the trip were Mom Pam, Dad Major and Colonel Bob.

I had the TOUGH job of being a judge at the Pageant. Each one of those girls were fabulous and it was so difficult to make a decision! But, at the end of the night Miss Kara Jordan was crowned the new Miss Job's Daughter! Amanda Crockett, the reigning Miss Congeniality of Maryland, had the pleasure of announcing her little sister Courtney as the new Miss Congeniality of Maryland!

Maryland is all about the food and the Holiday Ball after the pageant didn't disappoint! There was food, music, dancing . . . . and SANTA CLAUS!!! Yes, for a small fee you could have your picture taken with Santa!!

The next day was Maryland's Supreme Visitation with Mom Elaine and Dad Dave. Their meeting was held at the Grand Lodge of Maryland and if you've never been there, you need to visit. The building is one of the most gorgeous places I have ever seen. The Daughters of Maryland did a fantastic ritual meeting and some awards were given out for various contests.

If you haven't had the opportunity to visit Maryland . . .make plans! A visit is always a good time!!!

Peace out!
~*~Mom Melanie~*~

Flat Bill Takes a Vacation

After our pageant in Williamsburg, Flat Bill decided that he needed some time off. There was a FANTASTIC Hospitality room, thanks to Mom TJ! If anyone went hungry, it was their own fault! There was so much food . . .and, from what I understand, always a game going on in there. I heard Bop It! and Apples to Apples was pretty popular.

On Friday, the Candidates had their various competitions: written ritual, oral ritual and interviews! The Alternates also took the written ritual test - but they had a music rehearsal! That even Kelsey and Sammy hosted a dinner for the Candidates, Alternates, Judges, Pageant Committee and the rest of us folk! We were joined by The Supremes (no, not the group): Mom Elaine, Dad Dave, Ana K, Arielle and Mom Melanie (that got a little confusing . . .)

On Saturday, while the Candidates and Alternates were in their rehearsal, Dad Bill and I took The Supremes on a tour of Colonial Williamsburg. Dad Bill acted as our tour guide and we saw such as things as The Field of No Significance. And we saw where Robert lived, and James and whoever else Dad Bill made up. :)

Saturday night was the Formal Banquet . . . and it was yummy! I'm always thrilled when the dinner is something that I can eat (the perk of being GG: you get to pick the meals!) After the banquet Dad Bill, Mom Elaine and I went to visit the Candidates and Alternates. I gave an impromptu concert (I sang "Taylor the Latte Boy") . . .

Then . . .SHOW TIME! Mom Sarah Duke was our MC and she introduced each of the Candidates and Alternates . . .which is always one of my favorite parts. I like learning about you girls!

Sadly, I don't remember the order of the pageant itself . . .

Sammy and Kelsey both gave their final remarks. Sammy brought up such things like the time we (Dad Bill, Sammy, Kelsey and I) were in the car coming back from Conclave and both girls were yelling "My Grands scare me!" as other cars passed . . . .To be fair, Dad Bill and I were tired and punchy. Kelsey, I must say: that's the first time I've been referred to as the "Woman Behind the Shoes." ha ha ha ha - loved it!

Some awards were given out . . .I believe Karen-Anne from 55 sold the most ads for the booklet, Angela from 7 earned a perfect score on the spoken ritual and KC from 52 earned the award for the highest score on the written ritual test.

The finalists were announced and they were taken to a sound-proof room . . .and one by one they were brought out to answer the final question. The final question was about Thanksgiving and what we are thankful for.

It was time for the announcement of Miss Congeniality. Dad Bill and I joined the Daughters on the stage . . .(drum roll!). . .Jessyca from 42!!! YEAH!!!

Now . . .for the big stuff . .

4th runner up: Ashlee from 46
3rd runner up: Angela from 7
2nd runner up: Alyssa from 3
1st runner up: Amanda from 53
Miss Job's Daughter: KC from 52

After the Pageant was a dance . . .and we were treated to lots of dancing by The Supremes! And trust me, there was LOTS of dancing!

Many of us had to get up bright and early the next morning for the Supreme Visitation rehearsal . . .after the rehearsal Mom Ann, our Grand Chaplain, lead us in a moving worship service and presented a message of thankfulness.

Literally, right after the service was over, the Supreme Visitation began. We carried on the tradition and the HQs of 2009-2010 made up the members of the Bethel. Kerry from 22 and Alyssa from 3 were the presiding HQs and they did a FANTASTIC job! We performed the Obligation Ceremony for the ceremony. What an honor for me to kneel before the altar and deliver the Obligation to the members of Job's Daughters. Kaylee from 1 sang "I Have a Dream" for the Librarian's Report and moved many of us to tears - it was beautiful. The meeting closed with the Cross - and it was gorgeous!

Thank you so much to everyone who made this such an enjoyable weekend for everyone! It takes a lot of people to put on the Pageant Weekend -- the next time you see them, make sure you say thank you! They did an AMAZING job!!

We're coming up on Installation season . . . . who knows? Perhaps Dad Bill or I or both us will show up at yours!!!

Peace out!
Mom Melanie :)

Bethel 1's Newest "Member"

I attended Bethel 1's meeting last night. They were supposed to initiate one new member, but unfortunately she had to cancel at the last minute. The Daughters were prepared for an initiation, so it was decided that mock initiation would be done. But where to find a candidate to "initiate?" They looked no further than yours truly . . .

I quietly and stealthily slipped out of the room - only the Guide and Marshal noticed! I waited in the Preparation Room for the ceremony of initiation to begin. You should have heard the laughter on the sidelines and the looks on the Daughters' faces when I walked into the room behind the Guide!

Ladies, you did a great job - considering you were "initiating" your Grand Guardian! You did a great job keeping your composure (many of you wanted to laugh, I know!) . . . .but I think you enjoyed calling me a "pilgrim" just a little *too* much!!

Remarks became a little awkward when I realized the first thing that I wanted to do was welcome the new member . . .so I welcomed myself and I promised to put into Jobies what I would get out of it . . .

I did get to watch the Closing Cross from the East, which is one of my favorite things! Thank you Mom Sherry for allowing me to close the Bethel -- nothing cooler than that!

You know, it's funny . . .Many times the Grand Guardian is given an Honorary Membership by the Daughters of a Bethel . . .They usually don't "initiate" their Grand Guardian! :)

It was definitely a memorable experience!!

Our next event is Grand Lodge in Richmond . . .wish Kelsey, Dad Bill & I luck!! It was great to see DJ Mom Mona there (dressed as Michael Jackson!) and Bethel 1! We had some great costumes and I wish I could tell you what they all were, but it's still early and the caffeine hasn't kicked in yet!

There wasn't a huge turnout, but put the Halloween party on your calendars for next year! Mom Mona and Dad James are already working on a theme . . . Twisted Fairytales! It was amazing the number of Daughters present on the floor during the GV! There's nothing like looking out and seeing a sea of robes & cords. It was AWESOME!!

Their theme had to do with classic TV . . .which, to Dad Bill and I means somethings completely DIFFERENT than to the Daughters. For their ceremony the Daughters explained how they were like the characters from Rugrats. I felt it was only fair to share mine during remarks: I'm Angelica. I'm totally willing to admit that I'm a princess. Or at least I am in my own mind. (Yes, I did just put that in writing . . . .)

Each GV I've chosen a different musical to focus on - and this week's was The Sound of Music. My remarks were about one particular song, "My Favorite Things." Bethel 46's musician started playing the song while I was reading the lyrics! It was sooo cool! She even played a bunch of songs from the show during the Coin March! :) It made my day . . . Dad Bill was trying to get her to play the song "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" I think he wants to rewrite the song to make it about me . . . . .

Everyone's favorite part of the GV (and admittedly, this is my favorite part too) is the dress up time! I'm pretty sure you can guess what they dressed us up as . . . . I'll give you a hint: their names are Lil and Phil. :) We even had the appropriate accessories!!

Thanks to everyone for attending the GV - we hope that you had as much fun as we did!

Our next activity is Bethel 22's Almost Annual Halloween Party - and I hope to see you there!!!

Peace out!
Mom Melanie :)

Sammy's Reception

I'm baaaaack!

After a fun-filled night of Snipe Hunting, VeggieTales silly songs, and game playing there were some very hungry folks that were at Ocean View Lodge! Luckily there was a fantastic reception for Sammy, our Miss Congeniality!!!

Thanks to the adults of Bethel 3 for making such a yummy breakfast: pancakes, sausage, bacon and lots of good stuff! (I heard lots of girls comment that the "dollar" size pancakes were soooooooooooo cute!)

Some of folks there decided that it was a good time to play Spoons. It was a rather brutal game - at least one plastic table cloth was destroyed during the game. And at least one adult (*cough* Dad James *cough*) was found leaving the table with a Spoon in his pocket.

Thank you to everyone that came to the reception. Sammy has done a remarkable job representing Virginia alongside Kelsey, our Miss Job's Daughter. Dad Bill and I are thrilled that we got to spend part of our year with her. Sammy, we are so proud of you!!!

Until next time . . . .

Peace out!
Mom Melanie :)

PS: I totally FORGOT . . .and I can't believe that I did . . . Dad Bill got a little surprise from Flat Bill after the reception. That lil' rascal somehow got his paper hands on several rolls of TP. And, of course, what can you do with that much TP but roll a car with it? Well, with a little help from his 3D friends (one of whom *might* have been the Grand Guardian), Flat Bill did just that. Silly Flatty got himself TP'd to the car though . . .

Snipe 101 and Other Fun Things!

So the Sleepover that was supposed to be a bounce over was a blast!! We had a TON of "Jobie Food", as well as other foods that were even healthy!!

If you have never been on a Dad Bill Snipe Hunt, you are missing something special!! Just ask the girls who were there!! And as usual, something interesting had to happen or it just wouldn't be a Snipe Hunt. This year, we had to cut the Snipe Hunt short due to some clouds unfortunate decision to rain on us! Which explains why it was so hard to find any Snipes! They could smell the rain! Oh well, there is always next time!

After that little adventure, we returned to the Lodge and I took home A LOT of wet clothes to dry for the Daughters while they played video games and card games. Which was probably just as good so that I didn't beat them all at the Dance Game on the PS2! You haven't seen anything till you see me dance!

Mom Melanie and I brought some more Jobie Juice (aka Soda and Hot Cocoa) back with the now dry clothes, and the girls eventually got to sleep sometime before the sun came up (but just barely as I understand it!!). They all looked very tired, but happy the next morning!

Thank you all to the Daughters and Adults who attended, drove, supported the evening!!

Dad Bill
Associate Grand Guardian
Master Snipe Hunter and Clothes Dryer Extraordinaire!

Bethels 3 and 22 - THE Grand Visitation

It's ME again!!! Once I got on here, they couldn't stop me!!!

So last weekend was the Grand Visitation for Bethels 3 and 22!

First and foremost I want to thank the Daughters for a wonderful Grand Visitation. The ceremony was amazing, and the fact that you all took the time to memorize your parts on top of everthing else meant a lot to Mom Melanie and I. The theme really tied nicely with ours of "Friendship, Fraternity, and Tradition". If you missed it, Mom Sandy will probably let you have a copy if you ask her nicely! :)

A big thank you to Liessa and Sarah and the adults from 22 for venturing down from Northern Virginia! It was great to see you, and I know Mom Melanie was glad to have some "hometown" support! :)

As Bethel 3 is my "home" Bethel, it is hard for me to find the words to express how proud I am of you!! I know that there was a lot of pressure on you, and I want you all to know that I am EXTREMELY PROUD of the work you did at the Grand Visitation. I love you all!!!

I really thought the white robe looked good on me, even if it wasn't regulation length! :) And Mom Melanie was enjoying the new "bling" a lot! And if you don't know what that means, well, you just kinda had to be there!! But I am sure there will be some GREAT pictures at Session if you just have to see it!

The reception downstairs was soooooo good!!!! I loved the lasagna and the spaghetti, and the meatballs, and the cookies, and the brownies, and I think there was a veggie or salad in there too! But the cookies were REALLY good!

I am sorry that our original plans got sidetracked, but we still had a great time afterwards at the Sleepover!!

More on that to be continued....

Grand Visitation of Bethels 24, 51, and 53

It's Dad Bill, and I get to write again!!

So it all started on a GORGEOUS Sunday afternoon, in the metropolis known as Hopewell.

Mom Christi navigated and therefore I didn't get lost, AND I was there on time! I sure am a lucky Associate Grand Guardian!

The meeting was really nice, and ceremony was GREAT!! It was all about the when the Daughters "fell in love" with Job's Daughters. Pretty cool since the theme of the Grand Visitation was "Fall into Jobies"! Almost like it was planned...

Oh well, after that we had a great time giving out awards and being dressed up in truly silly (well MINE was anyways!) outfits! I can't talk about my outfit without violating several moral and legal codes in multiple states, but it was really funny!

The social hall of Dupont Lodge has been spruced up nicely, and if you haven't been by, take the time to go by. It is really pretty in there!

The food was great too!!! I think Dad Earl's cookies should be mandatory for ANY Grand Visitations in the Richmond Area!

After some great socializing with the Daughters from the three Bethels and the girls who traveled near and far, we said our good bye's and hit the road again!

Thank you so much to all the Daughters (and Adults) for their efforts that weekend, it was wonderful!!!

See you soon!

Dad Bill

Masonic Family Day!!

Well, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back a few weeks ago a bunch of us headed to the Masonic Home in Richmond for a fun-filled day!

It started off with a parade - we had a huge turnout! There was lots of singing and tons of Jobie spirit!! :) After the parade we were treated to a yummy lunch and then there was time to hang out & play games. It looked like everyone LOVED the moon bounce! :)

The Grand Master led a dedication ceremony for a new WWII Memorial that is now on the grounds of the Home. The memorial stone was made by our very own Dad Bob Clore and the presesntation ceremony included many of our Jobies who were part of the flag brigade. Thankfully the rain held out until we were about to leave!

Thanks to everyone for attending - I hope you all had a great time!

Stay tuned for Dad Bill's recount of 24, 51 & 53's GV and 3 & 22's GV!

Peace Out!
Mom Melanie :)

GV of Bethels 16 & 55

The day after the ball many of us headed to Fredericksburg for the GV of Bethels 16 & 55. As with all the GVs so far, the sidelines have been packed! Thank you to the Daughters for coming to the GV! I know y'all were tired after the ball and the sleepover at Bethel 1's!!

I am horrible at keeping surprises . . . .but there was one on Sunday that I did keep! Bethel 55 continued the hair gel tradition and I kept quiet about it!!!!!! (A huge feat, I assure you!) How, you ask? Karen-Anne read a history of hair gel for the Librarian's Report. It was informative, with the added benefit of being highly entertaining! If only we could have taken a picture of Dad Bill's face! It was CLASSIC!!!

So, Dad Bill . . .that's 4 for 4, right?

The theme for the day was the Beach . . .we heard about the Daughters favorite thing about going to the Beach and HIKE weekend in their ceremony and we were dressed up as beach bums. Well, I was a beach bum. Dad Bill was a hula girl; although he wouldn't let me teach him how to hula.

Thank you to everyone for a fantastic afternoon!

See you on the road soon . . . . . . .

Peace out!
Mom Melanie :)

HQMCWA Ball

Hi folks! Sorry for the delay in updating the blog!

A couple of hours after 1 & 52's GV we all went to the Kena Temple in Fairfax for the HQMCWA Ball. Flat Bill arrived in style (he was in a tux, complete with purple bow-tie!)

Around 10 p.m. the dance stopped for the introductions of the HQs, MCs, and WAs. Thanks to Kelsey, Sammy & Sarah for introducing all our lovely HQs! The HQs of Bethels 1, 3, 7, 16, 22, 28, 42, 52 & 55 were all introduced. (We got a group picture -- if you'd like a copy, please let me know and I'll make sure you get one!)

The night seemed to go by fast! The next thing we knew it was midnight and time to leave! A few of us headed over to IHOP before going home though. ;)

Did you guys have fun at the dance? Leave us a comment and tell us what you thought!

Peace out!
Mom Melanie :)

GV: Bethels 1 and 52

Sharon Masonic Lodge was packed with Jobies on Saturday, Sept 26. That's something that hasn't happened in quite some time and it was amazing to see! Thank you to all the Daughters who came out on a rainy afternoon to visit and support Bethels 1 and 52; and thank you to the adults for driving them! Seeing the sidelines packed is beyond phenomenal. I cannot tell you how much it means to Dad Bill and I to see the Daughters so enthusiastic about supporting each other! Your enthusiasm drives our excitement through the roof! We cannot thank you enough!

The theme was about Big Ideas . . .and big dreams! For their ceremony the Daughters told Dad Bill and I what their big dreams were. We loved hearing about how you all want to make a difference in the world through music, medicine, etc. Oh yes, and there was even a mention of Dad Bill and his hair gel (nice job, Kaitlyn!)

The favors were VeggieTales fruit snacks (yum!) -- which, HQ Kaylee explained later -- fit in with the Big Ideas them, as VeggieTales is a product of a company called Big Idea Productions!

Kelsey's remarks were based on the Dr. Seuss book Oh the Thinks You Can Think, and she inspired the Daughters to make things happen. She reminded them that they have a voice, and it is the most precious thing.

The Closing Cross was a remarkable sight - there were 20 Daughters on the floor. Seeing so many white robes in the closing was beautiful.

The best part, of course, is after the GV when the Daughters get to dress us up! Dad Bill, or should I say, Father Tanous, was dressed up like a priest and yours truly, was a nun. I came back into the Bethel, dressed up and singing "The Sound of Music." Oh, and thank you ladies, for the hair gel. I'll keep in my bag for Dad Bill's hair gel emergencies! :)

Thank you to Bethels 1 and 52 for such a wonderful afternoon! And, thank you for the lunch/dinner at the reception! Dad Bill and I appreciate all the hard work that went into making the afternoon such a special one for all of us!

Looking forward to seeing you all very soon!

Peace out!
Mom Melanie <3

Annual Meeting & CAV Training!!!

Wow - what an awesome weekend! We had a fantastic turnout at this year's Annual Meeting and Certified Adult Volunteer Training! We had almost 100 people for Saturday's meeting and over 150 people for the training! Thank you to EVERYONE for attending both functions!

Saturday's meeting opened with some committee reports on things like HIKE and Pageant and some general announcements. Dad Bill led our adults in an activity about interacting and working with people with different personalities than our own . . . .The teams of adults had to build a structure that would withstand my copy of the Constitution and Bylaws being dropped on it. One group was nice enough to build Flat Bill a house. :D

Lunch was provided by the HIKE Committee - thank you guys so much!! It was delicious!!! Y'all did a fantastic job!

After lunch we had some breakout sessions. Bethels rotated through three sessions: Building Your Bethel, Communication and Investigating Masonic Relationships. Thank you to Mom Stephanie, Dad Justin, Dad Grayson and Dad Bruce for leading those sessions. The day ended with one last session, designed to teach the respective council members about their positions. Thank you to Dad Bill, Mom Pat, Dad Coley, Dad Rob, Dad James and Mom Valorie for running those sessions!

Thank you to Mom Amanda for planning a trip out to a fantastic restaurant on Saturday night. Those that were able to attend enjoyed a yummy Italian dinner at Pronto Restaurant in Richmond.

Sunday morning we all met at the Scottish Rite to receive information and training on how to become a Certified Adult Volunteer for our Order. Our trainer, Mom Shelly of Utah, did a fantastic job! Not only was she extremely knowledgeable, but she was engaging and entertaining! I know that I learned a lot!!

Thank you to everyone who attended and made it so successful!

Melanie<3

Grand Visitation with Bethels 13 and 39!

It's ME again!

Guess what? We had a BLAST at the Grand Visitation in Yorktown!

The Honored Queens were lovely, and the Daughters did a great job ritualisticly!

There were sooo many people there that they had to bring in extra chairs!!

It was a WONDERFUL problem to have, and I know that Mom Melanie and I hope that keeps happening as we travel around the state!

So all you Associate Bethel Guardians out there better make sure you have spare chairs handy!

And even though somehow, hair gel got mentioned again :), the ceremony was really great!

I taught everyone some Danish in my remarks, and Mom Melanie sang! I liked it so much, I might try it sometime!

Afterwards, the Daughters dressed Mom Melanie as the shepheard and I was the sheep! I liked that MUCH better! And now I have a nice warm Sheep Suit to keep me warm this winter! :)

When we finally made it downstairs there was a very nice cake for Mom Melanie and everyone sang happy birthday to her! In all the excitement of cake, a certain Bethel Council Member who shall not be named (Dad Russ) locked his car keys safely in his van! Unfortunately, he didn't lock anyone else in there with them, and we had to find a way to "rescue" his keys!

Fortunately, Dad Bill and Mom Virginia were on the case and we were able to "manage" to unlock the van and "rescue" the keys, and Dad Russ! It was all very exciting and just a little bit silly! Ok, a LOT!

And once all us adults survive Adult Leadership (not quite as much fun as Leadership in the spring), it will be on to more Grand Visitations and the Honored Queen/Master Councilor/Worthy Advisors Ball!

See you soon around the state!

Dad Bill

Dad Bill invades NOVA and visits Bethel 22

Hi! It's me again! :)

This time I drove really, really far and braved the traffic of Northern Virginia to see Bethel 22!

Since it was a holiday weekend and I was off the next day, it made it the perfect time to run up there and visit!

For those who don't know, Bethel 22 meets in the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Arlington. It is this really huge building full of all sorts of cool Masonic information! I really like going there and just wanding around. And since I started college as a History Major (there was a lot less of it when I started college!), it is a great place to explore!

There were a LOT of cars there and it made me wonder if they knew I was coming! But it wasn't for me, there was a wedding reception happening! They were having a lot of fun, and almost as loud as Jobies are when having fun! :)

The meeting was really good! Their Secretary reads faster than even I can talk! It was very impressive!

And then I learned a really neat idea that I hope lots of Bethels hear about and use! They were making gift baskets for the newly raised Master Masons at a nearby Lodge. This was to welcome them to the Masonic Family, and also to let them know about Job's Daughters. I think it is a great way to welcome new Masons, and to promote Job's Daughters!

After the meeting was over, there were some refreshments, and cupcakes! I like cupcakes too!

Then I hit the road and drove home to spend Labor Day playing with my daughters and trying to avoid any sort of actual labor! :)

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day and Summer!

Dad Bill

Dad Bill visits Bethel 53

Hey!!

It's Dad Bill and I know you have been anxiously awaiting the next blog as we journey around here and there!

Today's adventure begins with me traveling to Richmond! I went to see Bethel 53! And guess what? I DIDN"T GET LOST! :)

They had a great meeting! The Daughters were all real excited that Flat Bill came along to keep me company! They had the Worshipful Master there and several members of the Lodge. It was very nice seeing my fellow Masons out supporting the youth!

And best of all, a petition was read! Way to go!!!

Afterwards they had cake! I like cake! :) But I couldn't stay long as it was a bit of a drive home back to Norfolk! :(

See you around the state!

Dad Bill

Safari Park!!

The day after the GV we all went to the Virginia Safari Park in Natural Bridge. After having a little bit of fun in the gift shop to start, everyone got a bucket of food and piled into two wagons . . . .and then we were off to feed the animals!

We fed llamas, ostriches (they bite . . .just as Mom Robin!), camels . . .and some creepy looking animal with this weird tongue. There were a bunch of other animals throughout the trail that we got to feed. Along the way a few of us lost our buckets to the animals . . .Dad Koogle lost his hat (don't worry, we got it back) and some of us were brave enough to pet some of the animals!

The girls in my wagon decided it was a good idea to sing . . .they serenaded the animals (and people too!) with "Circle of Life" and "Hakuna Matata."

There were other animals to visit after our wagon ride . . .we met and fed a few goats, saw some kangaroos . . .We tried to feed the giraffes, but I guess they weren't very hungry.

Hope y'all had fun . . .I know Dad Bill and I did!

Peace out!

Mom Melanie <3

Our first GV!!

Our first GV was at Bethel 7's. I was blown away at how wonderful the evening was and how many people were there! The sidelines were packed! :)

The ceremony the Daughters performed as, in short, AWESOME! They shared with everyone several of the different lessons that can be learned from VeggieTales. They included some of our favorites including Where's God When I'm Scared? (one of my favorites!) and The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything (Dad Bill "watched" the Jonah Movie that day). They even serenaded us with the VeggieTales theme song!

Dad Bill presented HQ Morgan with a beautiful certificate from us. I presented Morgan with a gift and if you want t know what it is, you'll have to come to the next GV to see it! It's AMAZING! We were surprised when Morgan presented us with gifts: a book of Bible stories starring those loveable veggies from VeggieTales . . . .a sheep for me . . .and for Dad Bill . . . Hair Gel (classic!)

The Closing Cross was gorgeous - and you haven't seen anything until you've the cross from the East.

Now that all that was out of the way . . . .it was time to dress us up! I was a sheep to Dad Bill's Bo Peep (ha ha ha ha ha!) They even gave him a shepherd's staff.

Kelsey, Sammy and Sarah gave out travel awards . . .Bethel 42 took 1st place for Distance and Jobie Miles, while Bethel 3 took first place for Most Daughters. Thank you to Bethels 1, 52 and 53 for traveling to the GV. Because all of you were there it made the evening even more fun!

And, of course, what GV would be complete without food?! Oooooh . . .the table decorations (made my BG Ashley's mom) were Veggies with eyes! I'm pretty sure Mom Christi got a picture of them . . .they were too cool!!

Thank you, again, to EVERYONE for coming to the GV! It was fantastic to see so many people there. We love to see the sidelines filled -- so, Daughters -- plan to do lots of more traveling!! You don't want to miss all the fun we're gonna have!!! :)

Peace out! <3
Mom Melanie

Flat Bill Visits Bethel #42

Hi! It's Flat Bill again. Dad Bill is letting me blog about our visit to Bethel #42 yesterday.

I was so excited on the way there. Mom Christi let me sit in a booster seat, so I could see out the window. That was really nice.

When we got to 42, I went straight to see Mom Marta, since she was the one who invited me to come. She gave me some chili cheese fries from Hardees. YUM!!!!!!

I said hi to the girls and watched as they had initiation and honored the Masons and Eastern Star. Not only did they have almost every station filled, but they also had girls in choir. One of the choir members protemed 2nd Messenger for the Initiation and did AWESOME!!!

There were also a TON of visitors, which included 3 Worshipful Masters, or as Dad Bill called them, "His Brothers!"

I did get a little scared at the end of the meeting. Dad Walter stood up and told the new member that if they start taking the chairs away, they were going to bring in a pig, but he said they wouldn't do that. Then, these two girls took the chairs away, and Dad Bill helped. I got really scared! But they never did bring in a pig. I was glad.

After the meeting, I got my picture taken with all those girls. That was cool! I can't wait for my next travels!

Peace out!
Flat Bill

Visiting Bethel 3

Wow! My FIRST blog entry about my home Bethel!

It was a lot of fun having the Grand Guardian in attendance at our regular meeting! She is really nice for those of you who haven't met her yet! Or at least that is what she told me to say! :)

Bethel 3 had a great meeting and Honored Queen Alyssa did a GREAT job!

Not that I am biased at all, but Virginia Honored Queens are so awesome that I really feel blessed to be their Associate Grand Guardian!

Best part of the evening? They read a petition! One of many the Bethel is working on, and the third of the term. YAY!

I was good and kept my remarks short, even though I was mocked terribly! Though I did agree (for some crazy reason) to let the girls decide what their reward would be with the only reservation being that Mom Christi had to approve. Not sure how much that is going to protect me, but it's a start!

I will post more of these as I visit other Bethels and fun or interesting things happen as we travel around the state and abroad this year!

See you soon!

Dad Bill

Flat Bill Visits Bethel 1

Last night Flat Bill and I paid a visit to Bethel No. 1 in Arlington for their regular meeting. It was also the Swinimer family's last meeting before they move back to Canada this week. :( There were funny stories, lots of laughter and lots of tears as Bethel 1 said good bye. Hats off to HQ Kaylee for the coolest favors EVER: I got a paddle ball, which I immediately put away because I knew that I would get in trouble if I didn't. :)

Next stop on my travels: a visit to Bethel 3 on Monday night!

Flat Bill Visits Bethel 22

Hi everyone!
